Configuring Gmail with Sony Ericsson M600i
// May 13th, 2007 // simply

This has been a big issue from the day i picked my Sony Ericsson M600i. What’s a Smartphone if you don’t have a successfully configured push mail? The default settings in the Sony Ericsson site list OTA configuration for all unknown emails, but no support for Gmail. And there are no good detailed tutorials about the same in the SE developer forum too. One exception is Niklas blog. His entry on ‘How to connect your Sony Ericsson M600i with your Gmail account (POP)’ helped me to sort out the minor issues in configuring the phone. But i just felt a screen capture of the settings might help things better.
These settings must be common for other UIQ 3.0 models from SE like P990i and W950i. Im not sure though. Anyways, for M600i – go to Messaging. Click: More > Settings > Email Accounts > More New Account

Now look for More > Advanced

Schedule your download timings at your convenience and there you go.

awesome info you have i was stuck for so many days as to how should i configure my mails on my cell. Please let me know is the setting will be same using in INDIA and with the AIRTEL connection
I have done exactly this and still get an error. The error reads: “The download failed because the account has errors in its server settings.” Before I used to get a timeout error, I am not sure which one is worse. This is the only issue I’ve had with this phone, but it is quite frustrating. Did you see an error like this even after setting it up as indicated by Niklas and nicely illustrated by you? By the way, I am able to log on to other POP3 email services on this phone.
Hi Felix,
I’m getting the same error when trying to send via SMTP: “…the account has errors in its server settings.”
Hmmm…maybe you haven’t confirmed your gmail settings. Log into your gmail account, go to settings and click “Enable POP3″ that’d do the trick!
i’ve tried it yesterday.. and it works faboulasly.. thanx for sharing
BTW: you’ve got a nice theme on your mobile? could you share it with us also?!
@ Abhijeet – This settings is independent of whatever service provider you choose. If you have a working GPRS connection which allows POP3 (the default 50Rs/month gprs package doesnt comes with pop3 support) then this will work
@ Julio, Passing by – Guys, make sure you got the pop3 support enabled in your email settings and also make sure tht you’ve got a working GPRS package with pop3 support. Most of the times all GPRS package doesnt support POP3.
@Hussein – Im glad that it worked for you. The theme that’s used in the screenshots is ‘Black OS’ and its available for downloads in http://mobile9.com
it Just doesn’t work under Vodafone INDIA,
It works…Thanks Bala..
I tried in my Nokia handset though…It works fine…Thanks Bala..
